(...) (View Projects) Jade Cascade Taipei, Taiwan

Predock Studio summons the essence of a mountain shattered and reborn, as if blown apart by ancient forces and reassembled in faceted form within Taipei’s bustling Zhongshan district. Like the cliffs where jade-green peaks plunge into the Pacific, the elegant 17-story, mixed-use tower rises as a crystalline echo of landscape, reflecting the island’s raw geology and luminous mists back into the city.

Springing organically from the site, and framed on either side by two adjacent structures, the tower rises from the street with a granite talus at its base and lifts toward the sky behind a double layer of translucent stone and glass skin. Water sheeting over stone and pooling at ground level, softens the street’s noise, offering a hushed private sanctuary. Apertures carved in the base reveal a quarry-like lobby entrance and street level retail providing protection and clarity for the pedestrian experience

Balconies wrapped in veils of translucent stone and glass, tinted in subtle shades of jade evoke the island’s sheer coastal escarpments and the veined waterfalls that cut through them. This colored, textured exterior turns the building into a living canvas for shifting light and shadow, its surfaces moving and morphing with the daily arc of the sun.

The ventilated second skin of glass regulates temperatures by shading the primary envelope reducing heat gain and enhancing energy efficiency. Its layered translucency frames long views toward the distant mountains and the city below while curtailing intrusive sightlines to foreground buildings – offering both an intimacy of refuge and an openness to nature. Residents enter this hidden oasis by car though a landscaped passage set back from the busy street, an arrival sequence that gently unthreads them from urban intensity.

Green walls offer lush privacy and shaded gathering spaces, while a lively, flexible roof terrace crowns the tower like the summit of an abstracted peak. Here, a reflecting pool, vine-covered trellises and communal seating form an elevated garden in the sky.

Jade Cascade offers tranquil luxury, a shimmering topography of stone, water and light – bringing the spirit of Taiwan’s dramatic wilderness into the heart of the city.
